MORE ABOUT

TERFEL FOUNDATION

TERFEL Foundation (Registration No: 001425/ADR/JO6/BAPP) is a legally registered, female-led nonprofit organization based in Cameroon with operational offices in Tombel and Yaounde. Founded in 2009 by an educationist and psychologist, the organization was born out of a desire to support the school needs of vulnerable children, especially orphans, and to promote the education of the girl child. Initially, TERFEL focused on offering scholarships, transportation, and uniforms to children in orphanages, alongside occasional donation visits.

As needs evolved, so did our mission. TERFEL Foundation expanded its scope to include three major thematic areas: Education, Empowerment, and Peace Promotion. These focus areas, which we proudly call the TERFEL Pillars, guide all of our activities and represent our commitment to holistic community transformation. Each pillar is driven by a humanitarian spirit, ensuring that the most underserved populations are given access to tools, resources, and opportunities necessary for a better life.

Our team consists of passionate women and youths with diverse backgrounds in education, psychology, social work, public health, and community development. Together, we design and implement innovative, community-based programs that promote social justice, gender equality, and long-term peace.

TERFEL Foundation continues to grow its impact through partnerships, grassroots outreach, and strong community engagement. We believe that by investing in the minds and futures of girls, women, and youths, we are paving the way for a peaceful and prosperous Cameroon.

OUR CORE VALUES

Equality

We believe every human being deserves equal opportunities regardless of gender, age, or background.

Empowerment

We are committed to enabling individuals to take control of their lives and contribute meaningfully to society.

Sustainability

Our initiatives aim to create long-term, impactful change that communities can maintain independently.

Peace

We value non-violence, understanding, and harmony as essential ingredients for national and global development.

OUR PILLARS (THEMATIC AREAS)

At TERFEL Foundation, our work is guided by three core pillars, also referred to as our thematic areas. These interconnected focus points drive our strategies, programs, and outreach activities.

EDUCATION

Education is the foundation of development and empowerment. We focus on the education of the girl child, ensuring that girls from vulnerable communities are given equal access to formal education. Our efforts also include second-chance education programs for teenage mothers, enabling them to return to school or learn a trade. Furthermore, we conduct community sensitization campaigns on sexual and reproductive health (SRH), equipping young people with the knowledge to make informed decisions.

Our education support includes provision of school fees, uniforms, learning materials, transportation, and mentorship. We also run back-to-school drives, teacher training, and literacy programs targeting underprivileged communities.

EMPOWERMENT OF WOMEN AND YOUTHS

We believe that empowered women and youths are agents of change. TERFEL Foundation supports economic, political, psychological, and social empowerment initiatives. These include vocational skills training, micro-financing support, leadership and advocacy training, counseling services, and self-confidence workshops.

Our empowerment programs seek to bridge the gap for marginalized populations, enabling them to become self-reliant and influential in their communities. Special focus is given to survivors of gender-based violence, out-of-school youths, and rural women.

PEACE PROMOTION

Peace is a necessary condition for sustainable development. Through our peacebuilding initiatives, we promote social cohesion, non-violence, and intercultural dialogue. TERFEL organizes community peace education workshops, youth peace clubs, conflict resolution training, and campaigns against hate speech and xenophobia.

We believe in nurturing peace from the grassroots by educating and mobilizing communities to resolve conflicts amicably and build trust across social and cultural divides.
